Jacobus Company, LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") built Retirement Scenario Lab (the "Service") as a privacy-respecting, educational financial-modeling tool. This Privacy Policy explains what information we do and do not collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Our guiding principle is privacy by design and data minimization: we try to collect as little as possible and to keep your modeling on your own device wherever we can.
We aim to keep this list short. To be precise about what leaves your device: your scenario figures never leave your device. The only personal data that leaves your device is (a) a Pro license key, sent to our payment and licensing provider (Polar) to verify and activate a purchase, and (b) your email address, only if you opt into our email list (MailerLite). In addition, our hosting/CDN provider (Vercel) may process standard server request logs (such as IP address, timestamp, and user-agent) as is typical for any website.
a. Financial assumptions and inputs ("Scenario Figures").
The returns, inflation rates, allocation percentages, contribution/withdrawal amounts, and similar figures you enter. These stay on your device (in your browser's local storage) and are never transmitted to or stored by us. We recommend you use hypothetical, non-personal numbers.
b. Name and email, only if you choose to give them.
The free tool does not require an account and does not ask for your name or email to use it. We collect your name and email only if you (i) opt in to product updates through our optional signup form, or (ii) purchase the Pro version. We use them solely to send the updates you requested and to deliver and support your purchase. You can unsubscribe at any time.
c. Standard server logs.
Our hosting/CDN provider (Vercel) may process standard server request logs (such as IP address, timestamp, and user-agent/browser type) as is typical for any website, to operate and secure the Service. We do not run third-party advertising or cross-site tracking, and we do not use these logs to collect the figures you enter into scenarios.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information (such as Social Security numbers, account numbers, or government IDs), and you should not enter such information into the Service.
The following summarizes the categories of personal information we may collect, consistent with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We do not use your Scenario Figures to provide advice, we do not sell your data, and we do not profile you for advertising.
We use only your browser's local storage to save your scenarios and preferences on your device (for example, to remember your saved scenario and that you accepted the Terms). This is essential to how the tool works and is never transmitted to us. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics or A/B-testing cookies. Our hosting/CDN provider may process standard server request logs as described in Section 2. You can clear local storage and block or delete cookies in your browser at any time.
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
Because your scenario activity is client-side, it stays in your browser and persists until you clear it. For the limited data we do hold: we keep newsletter/contact details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, and purchase and license records for as long as needed to provide the license and to meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations, after which we delete or anonymize them.
We rely on reputable third-party providers (hosting, payments, and email) that maintain industry-standard safeguards, serve the site over HTTPS, and minimize the personal data we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify affected users and authorities as required by applicable law.
The Service is a general-audience educational tool. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, "COPPA"). Any marketing description of the tool as simple enough for a young adult refers to its ease of use, not an intent to target minors. Purchasing Pro requires you to be the age of majority in your jurisdiction (see the Terms of Service). If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
The Company and its providers (Polar, MailerLite, and Vercel) are US-based, and your information may be processed in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. For users in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, where personal data is transferred out of your region we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), where applicable.
Changes to this Policy. We may update this Policy from time to time; we will post the revised version with a new "Last updated" date and, where required, provide additional notice.
